
CLEARFIELD - On September 23, 2011, Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., and McGruff the Crime Dog, spoke to members of the Houtzdale Cub Scout Pack 51 at Mountz Memorial Park in Janesville.
During the presentation, Shaw discussed the role of a prosecutor and the District Attorney's Office to the Cub Scouts. Shaw explained that the District Attorney's Office works with both the Police and Judges when crimes are committed, and that crimes can be committed by both adults and young people.
Shaw went on to explain that young people sometimes engage in activity referred to as bullying, and that bullying can take place both in and out of school. Shaw instructed the Scouts on what to do if they are being bullied and also what to do if they see other young people being bullied. Shaw stressed to the pack members the importance of being leaders among their friends and that they can set good examples for others to follow and prevent bullying.
Shaw congratulated Pack 51 Scout Masters Don and Nichole Wonderling for recognizing the importance of educating young people on dealing with bullies. Shaw stated that McGruff the Crime Dog was very pleased to see so many young Scouts learning about this very important issue.

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the Fugitive as John Rokoski, age 47, of New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Rokoski was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on June 6, 2011.
On March 15, 2010, Officer Steve Maholtz of the DuBois City Police Department, filed a Criminal Complaint charging Rokoski with: 1) Driving Under the Influence, M; 2) Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer, F; 3) Stop Signs and Yield Signs, S; 4) Driving Vehicle At Safe Speed; 5) Driving on Right Side of Roadway; 6) Obedience to Traffic-Control Devices, S; 7) Drivers Required to Be Licensed, S; and 8) Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended or Revoked, S.
An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Officer Maholtz states that on March 5, 2010, while on routine patrol, Officers observed a vehicle fail to stop at a posted stop sign. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating their emergency lights, however the vehicle failed to stop. Officers pursued the vehicle for several blocks, until the vehicle became immobilized in the snow. The driver then exited the vehicle and did not comply with the Officers' orders to remain near the vehicle, and the driver did begin running away from the Officers. Officers then followed the individual and upon apprehending the driver of the vehicle, Maholtz detected signs of impairment. Rokoski was then transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center.

CLEARFIELD - Clearfield County District Attorney, William A. Shaw, Jr., announced today that a Clearfield County man has been sentenced to state prison for Statutory Sexual Assault and Indecent Assault.
Shaw identified the defendant as Taylor Jarvis, age 21, of Clearfield. Currently, Jarvis is housed in the Clearfield County Jail pending transfer to the State Prison System.
A Criminal Complaint filed by Sergeant James Glass of the Lawrence Township Police Department, charged Jarvis with various offenses including: 1) Statutory Sexual Assault, F2; and 2) Indecent Assault, M1, 2 Counts.
An Affidavit of Probable Cause filed with the complaint provides that on October 19, 2010. Sgt. Glass was dispatched to the Clearfield Hospital to meet with the victim of an alleged sexual assault. The investigation revealed that Jarvis had sexually molested a thirteen year old victim while Jarvis was staying at the victim's residence.
On May 2, 2011, Jarvis tendered a plea of guilt to the charges. The Honorable Fredric J. Ammerman issued an Order on August 31, 2011, directing that Jarvis undergo an Megan's Law assessment by the State Sexual Offender's Board prior to sentencing. A Megan's Law Hearing was scheduled for September 2, 2011.
